Montaño es un Ala-pívot de 28 años y 2.06 metros de estatura que tienes seis años de experiencia en el baloncesto profesional luego de haber incursionado en el béisbol organizado.
En febrero pasado hizo su debút en la [su_highlight background=»#F15A24″]selección nacional de mayores[/su_highlight] en un partido en el que el cuadro nacional venció a Argentina en su casa.
El carupanero asume el reto de participar con Gladiadores en la temporada 2020 y se mostró emocionado de reencontrarse con su primer entrenador, Henry Paruta y un gran amigo del baloncesto Humberto Bompart.

Eliézer Montaño, pese a su estatura, inició su carrera como deportista profesional en el béisbol, firmando con una organización de Grandes Ligas en Estados Unidos y con [su_highlight background=»#F15A24″]Caribes de Anzoátegui en Venezuela[/su_highlight].
Luego de varios años en el sistema organizado del béisbol decidió dar el salto, y de qué forma, a una disciplina diferente, de contacto, pero que le venía bien gracias a sus 2.02 metros de altura brazos largos y poder de salto; fue así como llegó Marinos de Anzoátegui para entrenar y formar parte del programa TNT, Transición de Nuevos Talentos en 2013.
El espigado jugador, desde entonces, ha formado parte de [su_highlight background=»#F15A24″]Bucaneros de La Guaira y Panteras de Miranda[/su_highlight], además de una larga lista de equipos de países sudamericanos como Bolivia, Perú, Ecuador y en los últimos dos años Argentina, en donde disputó los torneos regionales de la localidad de Mendoza con el equipo San José.
Montaño, de 28 años y que actualmente se encuentra en [su_highlight background=»#F15A24″]Argentina[/su_highlight] debido a la imposibilidad de viajar a Venezuela por la cuarentena causada por la pandemia del [su_highlight background=»#F15A24″]COVID-19[/su_highlight], volverá a los tabloncillos venezolanos tras una pausa de dos años y medio, ahora lo hará con la naciente organización anzoatiguense, Gladiadores, pero con caras conocidas para el sucrense.
¿Qué te motivó a aceptar ser parte de Gladiadores para jugar en la Superliga de Baloncesto?
Cuando me hablaron del proyecto y de algunos jugadores como Humberto Bompart, el entrenador y la gerencia que fueron los primeros que me brindaron la gran oportunidad de abrirme las puertas en el baloncesto profesional, no lo pensé dos veces.
Pienso que estaré como en casa, estoy muy contento de esta nueva contratación. Como dice el dicho. El buen hijo vuelve a casa y aquí estoy para dar lo mejor de mí y seguir siendo un ejemplo a seguir.
Tendrás la oportunidad de reencontrarte con el entrenador que te recibió hace algunos años en el TNT de Marinos, Henry Paruta, ¿como te sientes con la posibilidad de jugar nuevamente para él?
Súper bien, porque la verdad todo se lo debo a él. Fue quien me enseñó lo que se del baloncesto y gracias a él he mejorado en muchas cosas. Hemos estado en conversaciones durante los últimos meses respecto a volver estar en su plantilla y formar parte de esta nueva experiencia y se que lo voy ayudar mucho. Súper contento de volver ser su alumno.
¿Qué te llama la atención del proyecto Gladiadores?
Es una sensación grande volver a jugar en [su_highlight background=»#F15A24″]Venezuela[/su_highlight] porque ahí fue donde empecé a crecer como jugador. Sobre Gladiadores, pues me llama la atención la juventud que viene en transición y el valor que le dan a cada uno y a futuro sea una gran organización.
También podrás compartir equipo con viejos conocidos como tu amigo Humberto Bompart, ¿han hablado sobre eso ustedes?
Esto me tiene más contento porque me gusta jugar con él. Siempre estamos conversando de muchas cosas y sobre todo de este equipo, los conoce y me comparte algunas informaciones para cuando yo llegue estar al tanto de todo. Es un buen jugador y buena persona, eso ayudará mucho al equipo. Espero volver pronto para compartir no solo con él sino con todos los que ya he conocido durante mi carrera.
¿Cuánto ha madurado Eliezer desde que llegó al baloncesto?
Mucho más de 90 %, madurez ya que he sabido tener roce en el exterior y en Liga Profesional de Baloncesto (LPB) y eso me ha ayudado mucho a llegar a donde estoy en este momento. Cuando tuve con la selección también me ayudó a cambiar un poco mi mentalidad, la forma de ver y afrontar las cosas, cambiar en cuanto a trabajar diariamente (pesas y mejorar mi juego) creo que he sabido aprovechar todas las oportunidades que me han dado durante estos últimos años.
Estar en Argentina te dio la posibilidad de ser visto y convocado a la selección y de hecho debutaste. ¿Cómo te sientes con eso?
Para mí fue una experiencia única. Me ayudó a elevar mi mentalidad como jugador y como persona. He cambiado. Cuando debuté fue algo que Dios y mis padres me lo pusieron en el camino y supe aprovechar esa oportunidad que [su_highlight background=»#F15A24″]Fernando Duró[/su_highlight] me brindó.
Me sentí feliz y contento de ser convocado y representar a Venezuela. Seguiré dando lo mejor de mí para estar siempre entre los 12 de la selección nacional. Ponerme la camiseta fue un orgullo, quiero seguir siendo un Vinotinto más.
