Venezuela apeló al oficio ante una desordenada Panamá
Venezuela comenzó con buen pie su andar en el clasificatorio al Mundial de Baloncesto 2023 tras derrotar con autoridad a Panamá con marcador de 77-56 en Buenos Aires. El conjunto dirigido por Fernando Duró tuvo mucho oficio y aplomo en el tabloncillo para conseguir el lauro. Mañana repiten ante el elenco del Istmo.

El Templo del Rock como se conoce al gimnasio de Obras Sanitarias fue la tarima para el recital venezolano. Desde el salto entre dos quedó claro que Venezuela iba a mandar en el marcador. Cuatro triples de David Cubillán en el primer parcial fueron importantes para sacar siete puntos de ventaja.
Los de Duró corrieron magistralmente su sistema de juego, mientras que Panamá fue un desastre tanto en ofensiva como en defensa. El equipo que dirige el boricua Flor Meléndez no pudo hacer gala de la veteranía de sus estrellas y perdió de cabo a rabo.
En el segundo cuarto la defensa de Venezuela y los propios errores panameños aumentaron la brecha entre ellos a 18 puntos, algo que los canaleños no pudieron revertir. David Cubillán terminó con 14 puntos y 4 asistencias, Pedro Chourio terminó con 12 puntos y Garly Sojo resaltó con 10 unidades, 7 rebotes y 4 asistencias.
El tercer y cuarto periodo fueron un trámite para ambas selecciones en su debut en el clasificatorio. El próximo juego será este sábado a las 11 de la mañana y es de vital importancia para las aspiraciones de los panameños. Venezuela por su parte quiere dar un paso gigante a la próxima ronda de cara a clasificar a la justa mundialista de 2023.
Venezuela mostró sus cartas
La nueva etapa en la selección de Venezuela comenzó y todo el equipo vio minutos durante el encuentro. Los criollos han tenido una simbiosis entre los jugadores que vienen del lustro pasado y los que se están sumando. David Cubillán lideró al equipo en puntos con xx, algo que era natural, pero Garly Sojo demostró que viene a ser uno de los nuevos baluartes del equipo venezolano.
Sojo, quien juega en Capitanes de Ciudad de México en la NBA G-League, mostró que ha mejorado y que entendió el sistema de juego de Duró, esto lo coloca en una gran ventaja para ser un referente en ofensiva en la selección.
Fuera de la cancha también se comenzó el proceso de savía nueva. Enrique Medina y Yulber Méndez. Medina es un pívot de 17 años con 2.18 metros de estatura, mientras que Méndez tiene 19 años y 2.03 de estatura.
Ambos jugadores fueron observados por el cuerpo técnico y entrarán en el universo del equipo blanco y el equipo azul que están enmarcados en el plan nacional de desarrollo.
